CARIBOU, Maine — Two men involved in separate incidents of domestic violence were sentenced this week to jail time for their crimes.

Aaron Finnemore, 38, of Bridgewater pleaded guilty in July to domestic violence assault, a Class C felony. Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gordon said Thursday that the victim in the case suffered bodily injury and the crime was a felony because Finnemore had a prior assault conviction.

Gordon said Finnemore struck his victim on the side of the head, bruising her ear.

Finnemore appeared Wednesday before Aroostook County Superior Court Justice E. Allen Hunter. The state sought a sentence of five years in prison with all but two years suspended and two years of probation with no contact with the victim. The state also sought substance abuse, psychological and domestic violence counseling conditions.

Hunter sentenced Finnemore to five years in prison with all but 18 months suspended and two years of probation with the conditions requested by the state.

Gordon said that Finnemore had a criminal history involving three domestic assaults and felony convictions for burglary and possession of a firearm by a felon.

In an unrelated matter, Randy Brown, 26, of Bridgewater pleaded no contest in July to unlawful sexual contact involving his domestic partner. He also pleaded no contest to a previous Class D domestic violence assault involving the same victim. Brown entered an additional plea of no contest for violating his bail conditions for contacting the victim from jail after he was charged with unlawful sexual contact.

The state sought a sentence of five years in prison with all but two years suspended and three years of probation. The state also sought substance abuse, psychological and domestic violence counseling conditions.

Justice Hunter sentenced Brown to four years in prison with all but 18 months suspended and three years of probation with all requested conditions.

Gordon said that Brown had a past misdemeanor conviction for assaulting the same person.

Once he is released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender.

Gordon said Thursday that he was satisfied with the sentences.

“I had asked for a little more time on both of them, but I do think we are making strides here locally in terms of sentencing for domestic violence,” he said.
