BANGOR – Marilynn Barbara Growe, 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Dec. 16, 2008, at a local hospital. Marilynn joins her husband of 59 years, Kenneth, who died in 2004. She was born July 1, 1924, in Hays, Kan., the daughter of Valentine and Barbara (Sites) Orth. Marilynn graduated from Marian Catholic High School, Hays, Kan., in 1942. She married the one love of her life, Kenneth, in 1945. While raising her family she took great pride in her work as an Avon Lady for nearly 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Bangor, and belonged to various church organizations. Marilynn was particularly devoted to her family, her friends and her church. She enjoyed cooking, travel and writing. She had a masterful knack for the well-turned phrase of hope, comfort and love. She is survived by her three sons, Gary and his wife, Cynthia, of Bangor, Douglas and his wife, Lorrie of Hampden and Charles of Bangor; her four grandchildren, Zachary, Hannah, Elijah and Sabrina; her sister, Bernice; and her two brothers, Donald and Norman. Marilynn will be missed by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be fondly remembered by her loving friends of many decades, Angie McIntyre and Germaine Cormier. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her three sisters, Althea, Dorothy and Patricia. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio Street, Bangor. Interment will be afterward at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
