AUGUSTA, Maine — The trial of a 22-year-old man charged in the murder of an ex-girlfriend and his father resumes Monday in an Augusta courtroom.

John A. Okie is charged with killing 19-year-old Alexandra Mills in her family’s home in Wayne in July 2007. He’s also accused of fatally stabbing his father, John S. Okie, six days later during a heated argument at their home in Newcastle.

Okie’s attorney doesn’t dispute that Okie killed the two, but contends that he’s not criminally responsible because of schizophrenia and other mental health issues.

The trial began last Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court.
