AUGUSTA, Maine — One woman was killed and a second seriously injured in a two-car, head-on crash Saturday night on Interstate 95 in Augusta.
Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said a car driven by Tara Gamwell, 25, of Portland crossed the median and overturned several times into the path of a second vehicle driven by Amanda Garwood, 19, of Winthrop.
Garwood died in the crash, which took place in the northbound lane, just north of Exit 109, about 8:15 p.m. Saturday. The interstate was closed for more than two hours at the crash site.
Gamwell suffered multiple injuries and was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Troopers were investigating why Gamwell’s car went out of control and into the other lane.
