ELLSWORTH, Maine — A 22-year-old Franklin man remained in custody Thursday after he was charged in connection with a stabbing early Wednesday morning in the parking lot of a motel.
Police arrested David F. Vaughan in Ellsworth on Wednesday night and charged him with aggravated assault.
According to Officer Shawn Willey of the Ellsworth Police Department, Vaughan allegedly got into a confrontation with the victim over “relationship issues” involving current and former girlfriends.
The victim, whose name was not released, was stabbed in the upper shoulder. He was treated at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth and later was released. The stab wound required 12 stitches to close, Willey said.
Police located Vaughan in Ellsworth on Wednesday night. He was arrested without incident.
Vaughan was taken to the Hancock County Jail where he remained in custody Thursday night. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance today at which time bail is expected to be set. A formal arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 23.
