BANGOR, Maine — The pharmacy chain Walgreens plans to build a new retail store at 97 Oak St., the site formerly occupied by Morall Brake and Bangor Car Care.

The Richmond Co., a construction firm based in Massachusetts, has been selected to oversee the store’s construction.

The Bangor Planning Board approved the proposal of the Richmond Co. on Oct. 7, according to city planner Bud Knickerbocker.

The developers applied for a building permit when the site plan was submitted. The application will be considered when the building design is completed, according to Code Enforcement Officer Dan Wellington.

David LaTulip, project manager for the Walgreens project, plans to break ground on the 1.3-acre site between mid-January and mid-February 2009. LaTulip said he would like to complete construction and have the store ready to open by the fall of 2009.

Bangor Car Care will open its new location at 617 Wilson St. on Dec. 30.
