PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Investigators released few additional details Wednesday in the case where a 5-week-old girl allegedly was assaulted by her father.
Detective Bill Scull of the Presque Isle Police Department said that police did not want to jeopardize the investigation by releasing too much information.
Patrick Bailey, 25, was arrested Tuesday after being charged with the aggravated assault of his 5-week-old daughter.
The arrest came after a joint investigation by the Presque Isle Police Department and state police Detective Adam Stoutamyer.
In addition, the state Department of Health and Human Services has been notified and is conducting an investigation of its own, police said.
Bailey made an initial appearance in Caribou District Court on Wednesday. Bail was set at $75,000 surety or $15,000 cash.
According to police, the assault occurred on Dec. 3 at the family’s home at 68 Chapman Road in Presque Isle.
Bailey’s daughter remains in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with what police described as serious internal injuries.
Scull said Wednesday that he could not comment on the nature of the child’s injuries or if the baby’s mother was home at the time of the alleged assault.
No further information about the infant’s medical condition was available Wednesday.
