HOWLAND – “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.” Proverbs 31:10. On Dec. 5, 2008, Alice left this world to begin her new life in heaven. Alice was born March 9, 1922, in Howland, the daughter of Frank and Marjorie Pettengill. She was educated in the Howland school system, graduating high school in the Class of 1940. She had been married to Raymond for 66 years. Raymond and Alice raised four daughters. Alice worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk, retiring after 27 years of service. She made many good friends there and often spoke fondly of them. Alice was a member of Howland Baptist Church. She was very active in church in earlier years. She is survived by the following: her husband, Raymond Doughty; daughter, Rae Stratton and Vinal of Howland; son-in-law, Roy Damboise of Howland; daughter, Peggy Thomas and Clarence “Cap” of Passadumkeag; daughter, Debbie Sereyko and Kurt of Howland; grandchildren, Alice Rancourt and Gilbert of Passadumkeag, Tricia Stratton and partner, Michael, of Passadumkeag, Holly Siering of Dover, N.H., Kim Damboise and partner, Brian, of Howland, Amy Damboise and partner, Casey, of Brewer, Raymond Thomas and Samantha of West Enfield, Jocelyn Thomas of Passadumkeag, Betsey Audibert and Jim of Newark, Del., and Lea Harper and Corey of Argyle; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Lila Smith of Orono; and a special niece and nephew, Judy Smith and Douglass of Oakland and Frank Smith and Laura of Winthrop.
