At Hampden, junior point guard Nolan Turner and junior forward Jacob Moore sparked a fourth-quarter comeback that propelled the Broncos to a sea-son-opening win over their Class A rivals.
Bangor led 33-27 through three quarters, but Moore scored five unanswered points and Turner followed with a drive through the lane that gave Hampden a 34-33 lead. Bangor answered with a free throw by Dan Taft and then a short jumper by Ryan Laro-chelle with 5:16 left, but those would be the Rams’ last points.
Hampden’s Brad Dolan made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to pull the Broncos within 36-35, then Moore — who had strug-gled throughout the evening with his perimeter shot — hit a 15-footer from the left of the free-throw line to give Hamp-den the lead for good at 37-36 with 3:10 to play.
Turner came up with a key steal with about 2:30 left, and Hampden then worked on the clock and forced Bangor to foul. The Broncos made 7 of 8 from the line in the game’s final 62 seconds as Turner, Greg O’Donnell and Moore made two each and Dolan added one more in the final seconds.
