New Renaissance Singers holiday concert

The New Renaissance Singers, in their 17th year, will offer a Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at First Congregational Church, Brewer. Selections from Handel’s “Messiah” will be performed, as well as a cappella works “Ave Maria” by Jacob Arcadelt and “O Magnum Mysterium” by Thomas Luis de Victoria, holiday-themed classical pieces and traditional songs.

Guest artist will be Dr. Anatole Wieck, professor of violin at the University of Maine, in a violin duet by Mozart. A string quartet of Wieck and University of Maine students will accompany the “Messiah” selections. A holiday gift basket will be raffled, and a reception will be held afterward. The singers are

directed by Laura Green Estey and accompanied by Dora Rex-rode. What’s the Scoop in Bangor will be the host for the singers at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13. Those interested in joining NRS may call Pam Ware, 989-6535, or visit www.NRSingers.com.
