BEDFORD, N.H. – Thomas W. Poole, 83, died Dec. 1, 2008, after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Monson, son of Thomas H. and Evelyn R. (Lord) Poole. He attended schools in Greenville and was a member of the second class at Maine Maritime Academy. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. For a number of years, he was a deck officer on merchant ships and was a licensed master. He was a graduate of Boston University School of Management and was employed by Burroughs Corp., as a sales manager. He retired in 1981. He was a longtime summer resident of Greenville. He had a lifetime interest in world travel and had visited more than 100 countries around the world. He was an active amateur radio operator who used the call letters, W1TWP, to keep in touch with fellow ham radio enthusiasts. He leaves his wife, Ellen R. (Nickerson) Poole; son, Thomas L. and his wife, Pamela Mackiernan, of Sedgwick; daughter, Ann and her husband, David Lewis, of Hillsborough, N.H.; daughter, Carol and her husband, Keith Driscoll; and grandsons, Hayden and Parker of Keene, N.H. There will be no funeral. Interment will be at Greenville Cemetery in the spring. Donations in memory of Mr. Poole may be made to Thomas H. and Evelyn L. Poole Trust Fund at Shaw Public Library, Greenville, ME 04441. The Goodwin Funeral Home and Cremation Services assisted the family with arrangements.
