Buy local. It’s an increasingly popular mantra, and it’s at no time more important than during the holidays, when we spend lots of money on stuff imported from abroad. You can buy really, really local and get something totally unique and wonderful, if you take a jaunt down to Belfast and check out Aarhus Gallery’s annual Holiday Extravaganza, held from Nov. 28 through Dec. 24 at the gallery, located on Main Street. More than 65 artists from all over the state will ply their creative wares, with a vast array of mediums represented, including but not limited to pottery, paintings, photography, prints, fiber, cards, ornaments, jewelry and more. Aarhus expands its definition of an art sale to more than just the visual arts, too; CDs from Maine musicians, books from area writers and candy from local confectioners will also be available. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with extended hours to 8 p.m. on Fridays. For more information, call 338-0001, or visit www.aarhusgallery.com.
