SANFORD, Maine — An elderly Sanford man has died from burns he received when his clothes caught fire as he was standing near a propane heater.

Authorities said 77-year-old died Sunday at Maine Medical Center.

State Fire Marshal John Dean said Albert was smoking in a small enclosed area on an outdoor porch at his daughter’s house at the time of Saturday’s accident.

It was Maine’s second fire death of an elderly person in two days. Margaret Rivers, who was 82, died Friday in a fire at her Augusta home.
