ROCKLAND, Maine — A 17-year-old Rockland youth was injured in a single vehicle accident at 10:35 a.m. Thursday when his 1992 white BMW rolled over in the driveway at Rockland District High School.
According to the Rockland police report, Deven Shay of Rockland was operating his car north on Broadway and turned quickly before oncoming traffic to get into the high school entrance.
Once in the driveway, according to four witnesses, the driver accelerated very quickly, arched to the right, and crossed into the left side of the road before leaving the road.
The vehicle slid sideways, rolled over on the roof, and struck the top of a culvert. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $900.
Shay was helped from the vehicle by witnesses and looked at by the ambulance crew at the scene but refused transport in the ambulance. He was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center by a parent, who had been called to the site.
A spokesperson at the hospital said he had been treated and then released.
Officers met Shay later at the Police Department headquarters and issued him a summons for driving to endanger.
Officer Lloyd Daniels responded to the call.
