CUSHING — A 25-year-old local woman was injured and flown to a Bangor hospital by LifeFlight helicopter after her truck struck a tree on River Road on Thursday night.

Amanda L. Taylor was driving north on River Road at about 11 p.m. in a 2002 GMC pickup truck when she drove into the southbound lane, went off the road and struck a tree, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.

The Rockland Fire Department was called to extricate Taylor from the vehicle. She first was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport by Cushing Rescue and later transferred by rescue helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious leg trauma, according to Chief Deputy Ernie McIntosh.

A spokesperson at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Friday described Taylor’s condition as fair.

Driver inattention and distraction are believed to be the cause of the accident, McIntosh said.
