FORT FAIRFIELD – Alton A. Gustin Sr., 80, died peacefully Nov. 19, 2008, at his residence. He was born Oct. 24, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Henry C. and Myrtle (Fields) Gustin. Alton attended local Fort Fairfield schools before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1953, he started work at Aroostook Baking Co., which later became LePage Bakery. He retired in 1986 after 34 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Getchell) Gustin of Fort Fairfield; his children, Alton “Sonny” Gustin Jr. and his wife, Debi, of Fort Fairfield, Connie (Gustin) Gersteling and her husband, John, of Australia, Barry Gustin and his wife, Glenda, of Lewiston, Idaho, and Heidi (Gustin) Benn of Cape Elizabeth. He will be greatly missed by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, three sisters; and a very special son-in-law, Rodney L. Benn. A private graveside service will be held Monday, Nov. 24, at Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating.
