Every year the Maine Arts Commission honors four Maine artists as fellows, as well as a group of Maine-based Traditional Arts Masters. This year’s honorees will be showcased at the Bangor Opera House during a free presentation at 6 p.m. Friday night sponsored by the Penobscot Theatre. Alison Chase (left), 2008 fellow and featured performer, is founder of the world-renowned Pilobolus Dance Company, and will perform her piece “Televisitation” with fellow dancer Robby Barnett. Also appearing onstage will be East Indian dancer and 2008 fellow Indhra Rajashekar — pictured here with her apprentice Rangapriya Rajashekar — and Franco-American fiddler Don Roy, as well as scenes from the Penobscot Theatre’s upcoming production of “A Year with Frog and Toad.” Other 2008 honorees include artist Randy Regier, writer Penelope Schwarz Robinson, fiddler Greg Boardman, accordionist Normand Gagnon, Native American basket maker Theresa Secord, step dancer Cindy Larock and guitarist David Surette.
