A Maine woman says forget about turkey this Thanksgiving, and give lobster a try for your holiday feast.

Julia Munsey of Bangor hatched the idea after seeing prices for Maine’s signature seafood plunge to levels not seen in decades. She began by serving lobster at a family birthday dinner and expanded her effort into a national promotion that drew support from Down East businesses and politicians from areas where low lobster prices have hit hardest.

Munsey says that if something’s not done, lobstering could end up in crisis. With the biggest feast of the year com-ing up, she figured swapping turkey for lobster could have a big impact. She says that lobster is, after all, the tradi-tional New England feast.

A Web site, http://lobstercelebrations.com, has been launched that features lobster suppliers, menu ideas, Maine specialty products, and informa-tion about Maine lobster
