Man charged in hostage event indicted in gun case

BELFAST, Maine — The armed man who held 11 Stockton Springs Elementary School fifth-graders hostage and pointed a handgun at a Searsport police officer during separate incidents last month was among those indicted by the Waldo County grand jury when it completed its fall term last week.

Randall B. Hofland, 55, of Searsport was indicted for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon as a result of the Oct. 23 incident involving the handgun and the police officer in Searsport.

Hofland also has been charged with nine counts of kidnapping and four counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon in connection with the Oct. 31 hostage incident at the school and is being held at Waldo County Jail on $1 million bail. He is expected to be indicted for the school incident early next year.

Emery T. Tenney, 30, Belfast, two counts of burglary, three counts of theft by unauthorized taking, burglary of a motor vehicle, attempted burglary and refusing to submit to arrest.

Steven A. Hodgdon, 42, Troy, aggravated criminal trespass and assault.

Jacob A. Crawford, 25, Rockport, operating after revocation.

Cecil E. Dennison Jr., 61, Lincolnville, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and threatening display of a dangerous weapon.
