AUGUSTA, Maine— The secretary of state’s office is counting more ballots as it begins the second recount that’s been requested in races from the Nov. 4 election in Maine.
Friday’s recount is for state Senate District 15, where incumbent Republican Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello of Poland requested a recount in her race against Democratic challenger Deborah Simpson of Auburn. Unofficial preliminary results showed Simpson winning, 10,019 votes to 9,917 votes.
The first ballot recount Thursday, in state Senate District 2. It confirmed that Republican incumbent Richard Nass of Acton won the race against Democratic challenger Richard Burns of Berwick.
In all, the secretary of state’s office has received seven requests for ballot recounts after the election.
