AUGUSTA, Maine — Some differences in the views of Maine’s three candidates for attorney general came to light during a forum in Augusta Wednesday, but none has plans for any major changes in the $30 million law office for the state.

The three Democratic candidates, John Brautigam of Falmouth, Sean Faircloth of Bangor and Janet Mills of Farmington, aired issues in a forum sponsored by Maine AARP and the League of Women Voters. All three are finishing terms as state representatives, and Mills last week was re-elected to a new House term.

The candidate who gets the Democratic nomination will succeed Steven Rowe, who has reached term limits.

Faircloth says he favors a collaborative approach to refining legal policy, while Brautigam says it’s not the attorney general’s job to make coalitions to create justice and public policies.

All three candidates defended their legal backgrounds, and Mills noted she’s listed as attorney of record in 150 supreme court cases.
