Jefferson man arrested in burglary

JEFFERSON, Maine — A local man was arrested on Saturday, Nov. 8, by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and charged with burglary, theft and drug offenses.

Brian Bennett, 28, of Jefferson was arrested after an investigation into a series of burglaries at the retail store of N.C. Hunt Lumber Inc. off Route 215 in Jefferson. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency assisted with the investigation.

A search conducted at Bennett’s home recovered numerous power tools and other building supplies that had been stolen from N.C. Hunt Lumber. The total value of recovered property was approximately $3,500, said Lt. Michael J. Murphy, special services supervisor with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Also seized during the search were 45 seedling marijuana plants and a small amount of processed marijuana.

Bennett was charged with burglary, theft and cultivating marijuana.

He is being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset pending an appearance in court.
