Mark Your Calendar: Angry Dozen

Posted Nov. 12, 2008, at 7:56 p.m.

With the national election behind us, our thoughts may be turning toward the joy of the holiday season, but drama students at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor still have weightier subjects on their minds. Under the direction of Lucy Bell Sellers, the young thespians are staging β€œ12 Angry Men,” a play about a group of jurors who must decide the fate of a teenage boy charged with murder and facing a mandatory death sentence. A guilty verdict from the jury must be unanimous — but will all 12 jurors agree there’s no reasonable doubt in the case? Made famous in a 1957 Oscar-nominated movie starring Lee J. Cobb and Henry Fonda and directed by Sidney Lumet, β€œ12 Angry Men” still stands up today as it tackles issues of prejudice and human nature. Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 14-15, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Gates Center; the show is free and open to the public. For more, call 288-5015.
