TURNER, Maine — Mainers are showing a rising interest in residential wind turbines for their personal electrical needs.

You can just ask Bruce and Lindy Gallup, who installed a 50-foot wind turbine on their farm in Turner a year ago as a way to cut electrical costs and reduce their impact on the environment.

Two or three times a week, people pull into their driveway with questions about how much the wind turbine cost, how much electricity it generates, how noisy it is and whether it’s worth it.

According to a report form the Governor’s Task Force on Wind Power Development, more than 50 small residential-scale wind turbines were installed in the state last year, including one at the Kennebunkport home of former president George H.W. Bush.

The panel expects 150 to be installed this year.
