HAMPDEN, Maine – The Waynflete of Portland girls soccer team scored three goals in the first half en route to a 4-1 victory over Orono Saturday morning in the Class C state championship game at Hampden Academy.

It was the first Class C state title for the Flyers (14-3) who won five state crowns in Class D. Waynflete was the fifth straight Western Maine winner in the state final since Searsport won in 2002.

Waynflete junior midfielder Sasha Timpson scored a goal and had two assists, including the assist on Morgan Woodhouse’s eventual game-winner.

Mariam Qazi and Mariah Monks each added a goal for Waynflete.

Orono, which finished its season with an 11-3-4 record, got a second-half goal from Alex Crocker, who scored on a free kick from about 20 yards out.

Orono goalie Elizabeth Fox made four saves on 14 shots. Waynflete’s Julia Pope stopped one of five shots.
