BANGOR, Maine — Maine’s secretary of state has agreed to keep the Bangor High School polls open for an extra hour after a fire alarm closed the polls for approximately 30 minutes.

The Maine Democratic Party made the request of the secretary of state after hearing that 30-40 voters left the site when the delay occurred.

Democratic spokeswoman Rebecca Pollard says voters affected by the fire alarm will be required to sign an affidavit swearing that they were in line at the time of the fire alarm delay. She says they must be in line by 9:00 p.m. to cast their ballot.
