Maine students take part in mock election

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — Students at more than 300 Maine schools are casting ballots Thursday for president, Congress and the three referendum questions on the state ballot.

Results will be reported later in the day at “Rally and Tally” events at the Augusta Civic Center and Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor.

The secretary of state’s office says Mock Election 2008 enables students from elementary grades through high school to engage in election-related activities and reinforces the importance of participation in the political process.

Statewide results will be provided to the national mock election program for inclusion in nationwide tallies.
