Storm warning issued for Down East Maine

GRAY, Maine (AP) — A storm that’s rolling into the state is bringing a thunderstorm or two along with the threat of high winds with gusts upward of 50 mph to 60 mph in Down East Maine.

Gov. John Baldacci warned residents about the potential for power outages associated with downed trees and limbs. He reminded people to be careful around power lines and while using candles.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency and utility crews were monitoring the storm.

MEMA spokeswoman Lynette Miller says high winds and heavy rain can cause significant damage, but she says “this appears to be a fairly typical storm.”
