MORO PLANTATION – Carroll P. Gerow died unexpectedly Oct. 24, 2008, at his beloved home, Bear Mountain Lodge. He was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Island Falls, the son of Laurice “Putt” and Audrey (Kennedy) Gerow. He graduated from Patten Academy in 1956 and Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1959. He spent his life making a living in the Maine woods; as an owner of sporting camps, Bear Mountain Lodge; and as co-owner of Rockabema Logs and Pulpwood. He served as selectman for Moro Plantation from 1973 to 2006, was CLP and QLP certified, a licensed professional forester and practiced selective cutting his entire career. He was a member and supporter of numerous organizations, too numerous to list. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Deanna (Merrill) Gerow of Moro; two children, Todd and his wife, Dallas Gerow, of Glenburn and Toni Gerow and her significant other, Terry Blanchard and his children, of East Corinth; four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Kennedy Gerow of Glenburn, and Thomas Palmer of Bangor and Teague Palmer of East Corinth; a special “other son,” Dwayne Merry and his wife, Lynn, of Sherman; three siblings, Caslton and his wife, Nancy Gerow, of Holden, Peter and his wife, Irene Gerow, of Moro and Carolyn Latour and her husband, Butch, of Ashburnham, Mass.; and his mother-in-law, Shirley (Perrin) Merrill of Patten. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father-in-law, George Merrill. Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Tuesday at Stetson Memorial United Methodist Church, Patten, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with Steve Richardson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lumberman’s Museum, Patten; CancerCare of Maine, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931 or consider planting a tree in Carroll’s memory. Please join the family after the funeral at Bear Mountain Lodge to celebrate Carroll’s life.
