DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A Dover-Foxcroft man accused of murdering his older sister made his initial court appearance Friday in 13th District Court.

Michael P. Toby, 53, who is unemployed, was arrested late Thursday night and charged with murder in the death of his sister Rosalie Shedd, 70. Police said Shedd had been struck over the head with a piece of wood and was left with a plastic bag over her head. It is believed she was killed late Wednesday night.

Toby did not seek bail and was returned to the Piscataquis County Jail.

Two search warrants were executed Friday, one of Shedd’s Aaron Avenue apartment and the other at a local lodging facility where Toby spent the night after his sister was slain.

Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Dennis Dyer said Friday that Shedd was a quiet woman who will be missed in the community.
