BANGOR, Maine — Jeremy Hart earlier today agreed to remain in the Penobscot County Jail until he is sentenced in the shooting death of his wife next month.

A sentencing date had not been set as of 1 p.m.

Hart, 35, of LaGrange waived his right to a hearing on a motion to revoke bail that alleged he had violated conditions by using drugs and not reporting a change of address to the court.

He appeared briefly in Penobscot County Superior Court before Superior Court Justice William Anderson, who will impose the sentence.

Hart pleaded guilty on Oct. 15 to manslaughter in the death of his wife, Kristen Smart Hart, 24, on Nov. 29. He admitted that he shot her in the bedroom of the couple’s home in LaGrange during a party.

Last week, Anderson added a bail condition that prohibited Hart from using drugs or alcohol and allowed searches and testing. Hart was arrested Monday at the Brewer motel where he was staying after he allegedly failed a drug test.

In a plea agreement with the prosecutor, Hart agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter last week. Prosecutor Andrew Benson agreed to recommend a 15-year sentence. Defense attorney Stephen Smith of Bangor is expected to argue for a lesser sentence.
