You can say one thing about the faculty in the University of Maine Department of Art: They sure have diverse areas of interest. More than 20 teachers and professors of art and art history show off their latest works in a faculty exhibit in the Lord Hall gallery on the UMaine campus. The show will be up until Nov. 19. From photography to painting to three-dimensional works, the group’s variety shows up not only in its selection of media but also its interests. There are pop culture references — Sheridan Kelley’s mock-up of a Bob Dylan album cover with the artist depicted as his girlfriend — and allusions to Dutch still-life painting in the photography of Michael Grillo. Nina Jerome submitted a three-panel oil-on-canvas landscape. There are paintings by Michael Lewis, pottery from Constant Albertson, a digital installation from Owen Smith, and an amalgamation of wood, paper, acrylic hair and ceramic in a hanging sculptural piece that is a collaboration between Andy Mauery, Susan Camp and Albertson. Gallery curator Laurie Hicks contributed photographs of, well, people taking photographs, from her work during a recent sabbatical. The gallery is free and open to the public; hours are 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.
