Mark Your Calendar: Triple Play

Posted Oct. 15, 2008, at 8:10 p.m.

Three distinct plays with one common theme: That’s the idea behind Ten Bucks Theatre’s Evening of One Acts, set to debut Friday night at Next Generation Theater on Center Street in Brewer, and featuring, among others, actors Bernard Hope (left) and Irene Dennis. The play lineup includes: “Here We Are,” a play by Dorothy Parker and directed by Katie Toole, detailing the initial hours of a new marriage; “The Attempted Murder of Ms. Peggy Sweetwater,” written by John Ruston and Frank Semarano, and directed by Simon Ferland, a story that demonstrates what happens when amateur detective work runs contrary to reason; and “Duck Variations,” also directed by Ferland, which appears to be a parkside conversation about waterfowl, until a touch of philosophy begins to steer the dialogue. The thread that ties them all together? The importance of communication and the ways in which a simple misunderstanding can lead to all kinds of troubles and different outcomes. An Evening of One Acts plays Oct. 17, 18, 23, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m., and Oct. 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. Visit www.tenbuckstheatre.com for more; to reserve tickets, call 884-1030. Tickets are $10, $5 with student ID.
