BANGOR, Maine — Husson College is getting a new name this weekend.
At the stroke of midnight Saturday, the Bangor school will be renamed Husson University. At homecoming festivities earlier in the day, Maine Gov. John Baldacci will officially proclaim Saturday as Husson University Day.
The board of trustees earlier this year approved the new name in recognition of changes at the school.
In May, Husson awarded its first professional doctoral degrees. Next fall, it’ll begin accepting students to its pharmacy school. Advanced degrees such as those typically make an institution a university rather than a college.
