Garden veggies to grace Eddington supper tables

EDDINGTON, Maine — When carrots at the supermarket come from California and the cabbage from Mexico, it’s good when locally grown vegetables are on the table.

The Eddington-Clifton Civic Center is hosting a harvest dinner Saturday, which will feature veggies and pickles from local farmers, said spokeswoman Susan Dunham Shane.

“This is our last supper of the season,” she said. “The harvest supper is fun because we gather veggies from area gardens.”

Eddington potatoes and carrots are two items that will be served up during the fundraising dinner to help with upkeep at the historic Comins Hall, built in 1897 and located at the junction of Routes 9 and 46.

Homemade pickles also will be on the menu with a different type on each table.

The meal will be served in two sittings at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Meal tickets are $6 for adults and teens, $3 for children. In addition to the local veggies and pickles, baked ham, baked beans and rolls will be served along with pies and cakes for dessert.

Area residents are invited to “celebrate the bounty of Eddington and Clifton gardens,” Shane said.

On Oct. 24-25 the hall will become haunted for Halloween for children and the young at heart to enjoy.
