CORINTH – Virginia May (Mitchell) Derby, 84, died July 8, 2006, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Elmer Rae and Clara May (Green-wood) Mitchell. Virginia was active in Girl Scouts as a child and as an adult was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. She attended Brewer schools and Husson, formerly the Maine School of Commerce, where she was a star basketball player. After retirement, she and her husband, Arthur Raymond Derby, traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Australia, New Zealand, parts of Canada and every state in the Union. She is survived by her son, Michael Arthur Derby; daughter, Charlotte May (Derby) Jones; granddaughter, Victoria May (Jones) Janousek and husband, Timothy; grandson, Anthony Michael Jones; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin Michael Janousek and Matthew Loren Janousek. She was predeceased by her husband. At Virginia’s request, there will be no funeral services.
