COLUMBIA FALLS – Velma L. Norton, 74, died Dec. 31, 2003, at a Machias hospital after a brief illness. She was born at Columbia Falls, April 28, 1929, the daughter of Forrester and Lucy (Ingersoll) Grant. She was a graduate of Columbia Falls High School. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to yard sales and collecting clowns. Velma was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Prince and her husband, Fred, of Columbia Falls; her son, James L. Norton Jr. of Newport; daughter-in-law, Marcia (Mawhinney) Norton of Westboro, Mass.; two sisters, Virgie Faulkingham of Birch Harbor and Merna Cowan of Palmyra; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, an uncle, Arnold Ingersoll of Columbia Falls, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, James L. Norton Sr.; son, George Norton; sister, Alice Dorr; brother, David Grant; and brother-in-law, Brian Cowan. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main Street, Milbridge. Interment will be at a later date at Greenwood Cemetery, Jonesport. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in her memory to Kidney Foundation of Maine, P.O. Box 1134, Portland, ME 04104.
