THOMASTON – Theodore Roosevelt Colson, 103, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at the home of his caregiver. Born May 9, 1902, in Harrington, he was the son of Allison L. and Mary E. Morse Colson. As a young boy, Mr. Colson moved with his family to Hallowell where he attended local schools, graduating from Hallowell High School. For a short time Mr. Colson lived in West Gardiner. On Oct. 3, 1926, he married Viola Inez Seekins in Belfast. Mr. Colson was remembered by his friends and family as a true Yankee, a hard worker all his life. He owned and operated a 100-acre dairy farm in Searsport for many years. To supplement his income, Mr. Colson worked as a carpenter for the railroads and also at Camden Shipyard. His good friend and caregiver, Siafook “Sia” Chan stated that after a long hard day at the shipyard, he returned home to milk the cows. Even after 103 years of life, with a frail body, Mr. Colson’s strong hands still told the tale of his hard work. Mr. Colson attended the Winter Street Baptist Church, Gardiner and was a member of the Rockland Lodge of Elks. A graveside service in honor of his life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at Green Lawn Cemetery, Route 131, Swanville. The Rev. Wayne Sawyer will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
