SUSIE BUBAR GRASS

BLAINE – Susie B. Grass, 89, died July 24, 2006, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Blaine, the daughter of Vaughn and Madeline (Sanborn) Bubar. Susie was one of the oldest living members of the Blaine Baptist Church where she taught the Cradle Roll preschool Sunday school class for more than 25 years. Susie and her husband of 68 years, John M. Grass, owned and operated their own farm until their retirement just eight years ago. She was a charter member of the Mars Hill & Blaine Jr. Extension Club, a member of the Happy Hour Club and the Mountain Grange. Susie drove school bus for more than 22 years and was known for her fine cooking talents. In addition to her husband, John of Blaine, she is survived by a son, Duane B. Grass and his wife, Brenda and a daughter, Charlotte D. Shaw, all of Mars Hill; grandchildren, Kevin Grass and his wife, Donna, Beth Cook and her husband, Chris, Andrew Grass and his wife, Leigh, Erica McCrum and her husband, Darrell and Ryan Shaw and his wife, Sadie; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Zackary, Carly, Mitchell and Libby; a sister, Launa Durost and her husband, Burton, of Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Bubar; a sister, Doris McCrum; and a son-in-law, C.E. “Butch” Shaw. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Duncan Funeral Home, Main Street, Mars Hill. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at the Free Baptist Church in Blaine with Pastors Lawrence Beals, Mark Hartley and Mark Carter officiating. Interment will be at the Tapley Cemetery in Blaine. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Mars Hill & Blaine Jr. Extension Scholarship Fund, care of Trudy Clockedile, P.O.
