SHIRLEY V. ROBBINS STONINGTON – Shirley V. Robbins, 80, wife of the late Stephen H. Robbins, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003, at a Bangor hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Deer Isle, Feb. 6, 1923, the daughter of Elmer B. and Sybil M. (Dow) Eaton. Shirley’s faith was rooted in the Restoration Movement of the Church of Jesus Christ in Sunset. During World War II, while her husband was overseas, Shirley spent some time working in the produce fields of California and Texas. After that time, she and her husband returned to Maine where she became the shore support for her husband and eventually her sons and other fishermen along the coast, many of whom only knew her by voice. Shirley will be remembered as a faithful wife, devoted mother, and charitable person. She is survived by two sons, Stephen H Robbins Jr. and his wife, Brucine, of Little Deer Isle and Brian Dowe Robbins and his wife, Felicity Myers, of Nobleboro; five grandchildren, Stephen H. Robbins III and his wife, Dawn, of Stonington, Stacie Robbins of Gray, Jessica, Cassie and Jeremy Robbins, all of Deer Isle; three great-grandchildren, Autumn Dawn Robbins, Faith Shirley Robbins, and Natalie Brice Robbins; two brothers, Eugene B. Eaton and his wife, Carolyn M. Eaton, of Little Deer Isle and A. Dowe Eaton and his wife, Verna, of Sunset; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Shirley was predeceased by an infant son, Ronald Robbins; and a sister, Therese Webber. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Church of Jesus Christ, Restoration Branch in Sunset, with her brothers, Elder A. Dowe Eaton and Teacher Eugene B. Eaton officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Stonington. Gifts in memory of Shirley may be sent to the Church of Jesus Christ, Restoration Branch, care of Marilyn Hutchinson, Stonington, ME 04681.
