DES MOINES, Iowa – Shirley Bassman, 85, died of amyloidosis, Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Kavangah House, West Des Moines, Iowa. Shirley was born in Bangor and made Des Moines, Iowa, her home for most of her life. She was a devoted homemaker who built her life around her family and had recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. She always had a bright, optimistic outlook on life and enjoyed having fun, especially winning at the Las Vegas slot machines. She will be remembered for putting others first and was loved by everyone. Shirley is survived by her husband, Morris Bassman of Des Moines, Iowa, and Boca Raton, Fla.; daughter, Roberta and Robert Wynn of Clive, Iowa; son, Dr. Jeffrey Bassman and his fiance, Pam Mally, of Davenport, Iowa; son, Joel Bassman of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandson, Jason and Danielle Wynn of Denver; granddaughter, Jamie Wynn of Denver; grandson, Kyle Bassman of Davenport, Iowa; granddaughter, Andrea Bassman of San Francisco; great-grandchildren, Emma and Sam Wynn of Denver; and brother, Howard and Norma Berg of Bangor. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn’s Chapel, 2121 Grand Ave., Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.
