STEUBEN – Sarah (Phinney) Haraden, 83, died at an Ellsworth hospital Sept. 1, 2004. She was born Oct. 1, 1920, at Steuben, the daughter of Isaiah and Winnie (Colson) Phinney. During World War II, she worked in Holyoke, Mass. for Spalding Athletic Equipment and Sears Roebuck. Following the war, she worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Buffalo, N.Y. Sarah enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was known for her fancy work. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Bar Harbor and the Bar Harbor Bowling League. She is survived by a stepson, Dalton Haraden of California; her sister, Mary Ashe of Gouldsboro; and her brother, Donald Phinney and his wife, Ella, of Freeport; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis; her brothers, Victor, Fred, Harold and Calvert; and her sisters, Natalie Stevens and Carmen Jordan. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge.
