PORTLAND – Robert Cochrane Marley Sr., 66, passed away May 2, 2004, at Maine Medical Center after a long illness. He was born Aug. 2, 1937, in Ellsworth, son of Foster L. Marley and Marguerite Bishop. He attended and graduated from Bangor High School in 1956. During his high school years, he lettered in football, track and was on the synchronized swimming team “The Dolphins.” He also excelled in long distance swimming. During the summer months of his teenage years, Bob was a counselor, waterfront supervisor and chef’s assistant at YMCA Camp, Camp Jordan, and the State Conservation Camp on Branch Pond in Ellsworth. Bob served from 1956-1958 in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Casagrande, and later in the Navy Reserves for four years until which time he was honorably discharged. He was married to Marcia R. Curran in Bangor on March 3, 1961. They have two children, Jennifer A. Marley of Portland, and Robert C. Marley Jr. of Saugus, Calif. He also has two grandchildren, Abigail Dine Marley and Cooper Robert Marley. Bob was a Retail manager at Rich’s Department store until he retired. He most recently enjoyed working at The Comedy Connection in Portland. Bob was an animal advocate and was a member of the Pug Rescue Foundation. Throughout his life he had many dogs and found great pleasure in his own Pugs. Bob enjoyed deep sea fishing, traveling, all movies especially classics and attending his son’s Comedy Shows from Maine, to Las Vegas. He also appeared briefly in one of his son’s movies. Bob is fondly remembered for his love and celebration of life. His happiest moments were when he had a party regardless of the occasion especially with family and loved ones around any time of the year. Bob is very much loved by all who knew him and will be sadly absent from their lives. He is predeceased by his father. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia of Portland; his daughter, Jennifer Marley of Portland; his son, Robert Marley Jr. and wife, Tracy, of California; his grandchildren, Abigail and Cooper Marley of California, who were the light of his life; his mother, Marguerite Bishop of Dunnellon, Fla.; his brother, David Marley and his wife, Pauline, of Miami, Fla.; his sister, Mary-Katherine Miller and her husband, Bob, of Dunnellon, Fla.; his very special aunt, Elaine Crowe of Bangor; several nieces and nephews; several cousins and many life long friends. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral Mass will be held 9 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stevens Avenue, Portland. Internment will be held at St. Peter Cemetery in Lewiston.
