EMBDEN – Richard J. Pratt, 65, passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, in Waterville. He was born Feb. 26, 1941, in Skowhegan, the son of Robert S. Pratt and Dora (McGuire) Pratt. He graduated from Skowhegan High School, Class of 1959. He graduated from Farmington State College in 1963, with a Bachelor of Science in education before graduating from the University of Maine – Orono with a master’s degree in education. He began his 36-year teaching career in Scituate, Mass., before teaching at the Skowhegan Junior High School until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Maine Retired Teachers Association and was a Mason with the North Anson Masonic Lodge. He was an avid fisherman and fly tier and enjoyed canoeing as well as building canoes. He also enjoyed bird hunting, woodworking, crossword puzzles and poetry. Music was his greatest passion; he loved to play his fiddle and had an incredible memory of recalling old songs and music. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty of Embden; four sons, Adam C. Pratt and his wife, Laurie, of Cape Elizabeth, Samuel R. Pratt of Embden, Jason R. Pratt of Ogunquit, R. James Pratt and his wife, Joelle, of Jonesport; and three grandsons, Christopher, Wesley and Samir. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
