BELMONT – Richard A. Dawson, 80, died March 8, 2005, after a brief illness at Waldo County General Hospital. Richard was born Dec. 9, 1924, in South Truro, Mass., the son of the late Aubrey H. Dawson and Lauretta Maud Christenson. He attended public schools in Brighton, Mass. Richard worked many years in Massachusetts as a truck driver before moving to Maine in the 1950’s. He continued to drive a truck for local construction companies until he retired. He is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Martha Brown in 1994. They lived many years in Belmont. He is survived by a step-son, Roy Gutterson of California. He also is survived by two brothers, Charles Dawson of Uniontown, Pa., and David Dawson of Prospect; two sisters, Lauretta Bondio of New Orleans, La., and Pauline Collins of Appleton, Wis.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William Dawson Sr. of Belmont, and George Dawson of Las Vegas, Nev; one sister, Ruth Klaft of Lydington, Mich. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with the Rev. Russell Bonin officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home 5-6 p.m. on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Senior Spectrum/Meals on Wheels, 18 Merriam Rd., Belfast, ME 04915 and Home Care of Maine, 347 Main Ave., Farmingdale, ME 04344. Special thanks to Kate Bryd who was Richard’s home care provider the last year. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home of Belfast.
