ADDISON – Raymond S. Joy, 95, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Jan. 22, 1909, in Addison, the son of Darius D. and Martha R. (Strout) Joy. Raymond was a graduate of Addison High School, Class of 1927, and attended the University of Maine Agricultural School at Orono. He taught at Cape Split before going to work at the post office. He was a veteran of World War II, and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Following the war, Raymond returned to Addison, and resumed his duties as Postmaster of the Addison Post Office, from which he retired in 1967 with 33 years of service. Raymond was a member and Past Master of Tuscan Lodge No. 106, A.F. & A.M. in Addison, and was awarded Outstanding Mason for District 3 in 1990. He was also a member of the Eastern Harbor Grange and the Indian River Grange for 79 years, and served as Master of both Pomona and Subordinate Granges. Raymond was also a Deputy of the Maine State Grange. Raymond was a member of the Union Church of South Addison, where he served as secretary and treasurer for 43 years. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris (Davis) Joy of Addison; a son, Merle Joy and his wife, Eloise, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Sonya Huntley and her husband, Ray, of Ellsworth; six grandchildren, David Joy and his wife, Rebecca, Shirley DeBerry and her husband, David, Doris Brock and her husband, Dean, Katrina Kuitems and her husband, Philip, Raymond Young and his wife, Erin, and Karmen Young; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Union Church of South Addison, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18.
