GREENVILLE – Rance A. McEachern, 83, died Oct. 25, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Greenville, son of Hugh A. and Lillian (Boudreau) McEachern. He was a lifelong resident of Greenville, where he was a local business owner and also worked as a heavy equipment operator through Local 4 Union of Operating Engineers and was given a 50-year certificate for his service to the union. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II, seeing action on Guadalcanal and Guam. After returning from the war, he married Ruth A. Ward May 12, 1945, a marriage that lasted until her death in 2004. Rance enjoyed playing cards, bingo, building model ships and his passion was for the game of golf. He won the senior Paul Bunyan Annual Tournament in 1985 and will be buried with his putter. Rance was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Ruth A. McEachern; two sons, Kurt Allen and Rance Jr.; three brothers and one sister. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Hugh A. and Linda McEachern of Greenville; a daughter, Lynne C. Harvey of Bangor; five grandchildren, Jennifer McEachern of Greenville, Kim Laplant of Verona Island, Ben Harvey of Bangor, Rance McEachern of Tampa, Fla., and Kate Harvey of Bangor; one great-grandson, Rance A. Laplant of Verona Island; brother-in-law, Phillip Ward of Greenville; and sister-in-law, Madeline Jordan and her husband, Harold, of New Hampshire.
