MILDRED E. WILKINSON

OTTER CREEK and BAR HARBOR – Mildred E. Wilkinson, wife of the late Homer R. Wilkinson, passed away at Mount Desert Island Hospital, Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 after a brief illness. She was born May 18, 1910, on “Music Hill” in Otter Creek, the daughter of Martin Thomas and Annie (Parker) Davis. She had many jobs during her long life. The Jackson Laboratory and several summer estates, including the Kanzler’s on “The Hill” in Seal Harbor. She is survived by three children, Marilyn R. Dixon and husband, Donald, of Holtwood, Pa., Hannah E. Wilkinson of Otter Creek Road, Bar Harbor, Thomas D. McKay and wife, Susan, of Bar Harbor. She is survived by two half-brothers, Robert T. Davis and Gordon “Bunk” Davis, both of Bar Harbor; and a half-sister, Grace Leonard of Sacramento, Calif. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Homer R. Wilkinson; her son, George W. “Bill” McKay; infant daughter, Barbara in 1938; infant grandson, Christopher; daughter-in-law, Betsy “Bryant” McKay; and grandson, Hughie McKay. As an avid knitter, many of her loving creations were worked on at AA meetings she attended with Homer. In loving support of Homer and their many friends, she was always there caring for those who struggled with chemical dependency. A celebration of life will be held in late spring at the Abbey Chapel in Seal Harbor (announcement to follow). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MDI Alcohol and Drug Abuse Group, Attn.
