DOVER-FOXCROFT – Merle E. Brown, 84, died Nov. 10, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born July 9, 1919, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Emmons and Doris (McPherson) Brown. Merle attended local schools. He worked for Stone Webster Construction Company and Bonsey Brothers for many years. Merle was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Chadbourne Merrill American Legion Post No. 29. A resident of Dover-Foxcroft most of his life, Merle was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, hunt and snowmobile. He was also a registered Maine Guide since 1947. He particularly enjoyed his card games with good friends. He is survived by a daughter, Rose Fox and her husband, David, of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a son, Ralph Brown of California; a sister, Arline Bishop of Dover-Foxcroft; a brother, Joe Brown of Greenville; a special niece, Doris Powell and her husband, Dane, of Dover-Foxcroft; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. A special “granddaughter” to Merle was Heather Dexter. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Ronco Brown; and a long-time companion and friend, Jeanette Dexter. Friends are invited to call from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Rev. Ken Dale officiating.
