CANAAN – Maynard O. Burrill, 72, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2005, in Water-ville surrounded by his family. He was born June 9, 1933, in Canaan, the son of Kenneth A. and Mildred (Olson) Burrill. In 1953, Maynard graduated from Skowhegan High School and spent two years serving in the U.S. Army in Fort Benning, Ga. Maynard spend the next 40 years as a self-employed logger in the surrounding area. Maynard’s hobby was dabbling in buying and selling woodlots. Maynard enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Since retirement, he truly loved riding around the roads of Canaan and stopping by to have a conversation with family and friends. Survivors include his beloved wife, Emma of Canaan; three daughters, Sharon Chastain of Canaan, Debbie and Mark Johnson of Hollis, N.H. and Tammie and Larry Bradley of Tewksbury, Mass.; one son, Kurt Maynard and Clara Burrill of Canaan, seven grandchildren, Shawn Chastain, Amanda and Jake Burrill, Lindsey and Hannah Johnson, and Christopher and Matthew Bradley. He is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Huston of Old Orchard Beach and Kathy Gaddar of South Portland, an aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Skowhegan Federated Church, Island Avenue, Skowhegan, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating. Donations may be made in Maynard Burrill’s memory to the Canaan Elementary School, 178 Main St., Canaan, ME 04924 to assist in the development of nature trails.
